BUSINESS, COCKTAILS, SMARTY-ASS QUOTES

Cocktail Hackers on Friday!

Whoop! The weekend starts now!  Cocktails on Friday is how we roll here at The Bitchy Business Briefs!

You don’t need expensive tools to make a cocktail. I’ve totally used my finger to stir a drink

  Today, my feature cocktail is

El Pato  [~ Argentina~]

El Pato was created by Salvatore “Pichin” Policastro, one of Argentina’s most famous bartenders.  He created this cocktail for the World Bartender Championship in 1954 and dedicated it to Argentina’s homegrown sport, pato, which is similar to polo.  Palicastro’s book Tragos Magicos (1955) became a go-to guide for up-and-coming bartenders.

A gin-based cocktail with sweet and dry vermouth, Campari, Cointreau, and Kirsch, El Pato is a robust drink.

Yet, served over ice, it is subtle and dry with a characteristic bitterness from the Campari.  If you enjoy a Negroni, you’ll love this complex and refined twist.

Let’s Make El Pato [2 Drinks]

2 1/2 ounces gin
1 1/2 ounces Campari
1 ounce sweet vermouth
1 ounce dry vermouth
1 ounce orange liqueur (recommend Curacao or Cointreau)\
1/2 ounce Kirsch
Orange slices, for garnish
Fill a cocktail shaker with ice and add all ingredients.
Shake well and serve in chilled glasses over ice. Garnish each glass with an oranges slice.

Cheers!

Let’s look at The Cocktail Hacker! One of my favorite blogs for new cocktail recipes.

Now that the holidays have officially kicked in…  The weather temperatures are chilly and a great warm drink always hits the spot. Also, the cold season is now upon us.  My granny [with her awesome thick Spanish accent] always said, “Mija keep a bottle of whiskey in the house.” I never understood why she would say this… until now!

Instead of wasting your money looking down the aisles of your pharmacy… trying to get the best cold remedy medicine, just head to your friendly liquor store. [Tweet theme=”tweet-box-shadow”]My liquor store is friendly because it’s liquor and the guy who owns the store is always friendly. @SharonLeeZapata[/Tweet Grab yourself a bottle of whiskey and make a hot toddy instead of buying Nyquil.  It works just as well.

One of the main ways your body is able to fight off a cold is by getting enough sleep so that you are well rested.  While you could turn to the nasty Nyquil to try and help you with the job… a hot toddy works just as well, and a bit more naturally.  It relieves your symptoms so you can rock off to sleepy land  + plus you won’t have that foggy Nyquil hangover in the morning.

Here is a different version of the original hot toddy.  Introducing the Spiced Apple Toddy!

From one of my favorite cocktail blogs: The Cocktail Hacker

Spiced Apple Toddy

3 oz Apple Juice
3 oz Bhakti Chai Concentrate
2 oz Water
1 1/4 oz George Dickel No. 12 Tennessee Whisky
Orange Twist
Slice of Apple

1) Combine the chai, apple juice and water and heat to nearly boiling
2) Mix in the whisky
3) Garnish with an apple slice and an orange twist
