Welcome to Cocktails on Friday’s. Let’s get started!…remember you don’t need expensive tools to make a cocktail. I have to admit, I’ve totally used my finger to stir a drink because everything was in the dishwasher!
Today we are going drinking in Panama! This week’s pick for Cocktails On Friday’s on behalf of our girlfriend, Award Winning Blogger, Cocktail Creator, and Author: Vianney Rodriguez, We are thrilled to share her yummy cocktail creations from her new book: Latin Twist.
Latin Twist is available on Amazon.com
Let’s take a trip to Panama. Did you know that alcohol is cheaper to produce and import than most soft drinks in Panama?
Here are the top 3 Popular liquors in Panama:
Rum
Vodka
Tequila
Let’s make a drink! The Panama Cocktail is so yummy… you won’t even know you’re drinking Brandy! nom… nom… nom…
Makes 1 Drink!
1-ounce white creme de cacao
1 ounces Brandy
1 ounce Heavy Cream
Crushed ice Shake all the ingredients together well in a shaker with crushed ice.
Strain the mixture into a chilled cocktail glass.
For another full Panamanian cocktail experience, let’s sip on this Panama Red… It tastes similar to a cherry margarita!
The Panama Red has only 4 ingredients. It is usually served in a martini glass instead of on the rocks or blended, but we like our Panama Red over ice [as pictured]. Feel free to serve it, either way.
MAKES 1
- 1 1/2 ounces of tequila
- 1/2 ounce Triple Sec
- 1-ounce Homemade Sweet-and-Sour Margarita mix [ see recipe below]
- Splash of Grenadine Shake all ingredients with some ice in a cocktail shaker and strain into a chilled cocktail glass. If you prefer ice, pour directly into a martini glass
Something you want to make ahead for your Panama Red is this homemade sweet-and-sour margarita mix. Here is the recipe:
- 3 cups of water
- 3 cups granulated sugar
- 2 cups fresh lemon juice
- 2 cups fresh lime juice
Shake all ingredients with some ice in a cocktail shaker and strain into a chilled cocktail glass. If you prefer ice, pour directly into a martini glass
Combine water and sugar in large saucepan. Stir over medium heat until sugar dissolves. Bring to a boil. Cool syrup.
Mix sugar syrup, lemon juice, and lime juice in a pitcher. Chill until cold.
Can be made 1 week ahead. Cover and keep chilled
I hope you enjoy these cocktails be you drink them on Friday or Monday!
