How to Create Opportunities When You’ve Sucked at Many

Sometimes you will experience bad days. Bad weeks. Bad months. Shit, even bad years.

Why?

Because this is part of the human landscape that we are all a part of. Nobody can avoid this.

Sometimes we even lose battles that we weren’t a part of because; we are products of all our decisions, our uncertainties, and our indecisiveness in our day-to-day situations.

We are also products of our quick thinking, actions, and get shit done attitudes.

So what does all this have to do with creating opportunities for yourself when you’ve sucked at some?

I can only teach what I do.

I can only write what I know.

The way I see this moot point… when it comes to creating opportunities is that you most likely will suck at things before you excel at things.

It’s called experience.

I assure you all the things I’ve attempted the first time… I sucked at them.

You want my dirty secret to excelling at your sucky-ness? [new word] it’s not giving up!

If you want something you’ve never had… you’ve gotta do something you’ve never done.

It is so easy-peasy to quit.

I know from personal experience.

I’ve quit on personal projects… shit, and I’ve even walked away from situations.

This is not the way to handle things.

Believe me, you will feel worse for walking away.

Do not stop when you feel like you won’t get ahead.

Step back look at your situation if you must… just enough to re-examine what needs to be improved, deleted, or restructured.

Is the opportunity you are trying to create in-line with your talents, skills, and passions?

Is the opportunity you are trying to create hard to pursue because you need to increase your confidence?

This is fixable… you know how to increase your confidence?

Just do it.

Yes!

That is it.

Nobody exits the womb with complete confidence knowing everything!

Hell, I still have days when I am not 100% sure a new project or endeavor will work.

You know what I have to tell myself? I say, “Fuck it. Go for it.”

Because one day I will be dead and I’ll never know if what I am going for would really work unless I attempt it.

I’ve seen people do all the research, the analytics, the gathering of information… yet no action.

WTF?

That is not how to get things done… taking action is how to #getshitdone.

Not everything we attempt to do will work out.

Just like your gut says… “This might not work.”

Just like your friends say… ‘That might not work.”

However, if you don’t try you’ll never know if that thing, that endeavor didn’t work out unless you tried.

Don’t be afraid to fail.

Be afraid not to try.

Success is not a popularity contest darling.

Successful mistakes are the most powerful experiences I personally know.

AUTHOR
Sharon is an award-winning presenter and 3-time author, including her latest book "Middle Finger Happiness... work hard. live well. don't fuck with mem." She happily wears this book title as one of her favorite tattoos.

Since 2015, she's been pumping out her glorious and quirky, no-filter writing abilities as the creative-head of the ever-popular blog The Bitchy Business Briefs.

She's an abstract Artist with a baller mixed-media studio in The Silos on Sawyer [the largest creative campus in the U.S.]
Sharon is the owner and Co-Founder of The Zapata Group [swiss army knife of creative consulting services]

...and she has a constantly growing podcast: Middle Finger Happiness [iTunes, Anchor, Spotify, Google]

Sharon suffers from having misdirected energy and creativity… So she writes her business ideas, her ‘briefs’ [small batch story telling] – and creates SMARTY-ASS quotes; keeps a lot of tiny notepads around her home to write them down. This is actually her therapy instead of taking pills.

A proud wife and mom to an 11-year old son and grown-up son, she requires an obscene amount of caffeine to get her through most days... doesn't play well with bigots or assholes.
